I’ve just registered my openID, an initiative to manage your online identity in a single place, that I think it’s a really cool idea.
Just generated mine:
openid.es -> http://martin.openid.es
Then idea is that instead of generating a new acount with all your details you paste the url http://martin.openid.es and then this is what happens:
- You get automatically redirected to the openid provider where you type your password
- It checks that it’s the right passphrase and then you get redirected to the original site. (In my case I was logging in to gastus.com )
Cool but what are the benefits ?
- You don’t have to repeat all the boring identity details once again
- You keep a record of the sites that request this id. I have almost 100 accounts everywhere and sometimes I ‘m stump thinking…do I have an account or not ?
Now with this all this pain will be gone. So I declare myself like a strong supporter of this initiative and I will try to implement openID in future site releases.
